How to read a vehicle inspection report.
A TÜV report, a contrôle technique report or an ITV card: across the EU, every inspection certificate lists the same key facts. Click a line to see what to check.
Recorded at every test. Compare it with the readings in your Certcar report: from one date to the next, the mileage should only go up.
The test is passed. The defect should be fixed, without a re-test.
The test is failed. The car needs a repair and a re-test, within two months at the latest.
The test is failed, and the car may be banned from public roads until it is repaired.
What your report shows, wherever the car has been.
The report searches the history recorded for the VIN, across the countries where the car was registered.
Mileage readings
Every reading found for the VIN, on one chart with dates. A drop against an earlier reading is flagged.
Service and history
Service visits, damage records and the car's timeline, from the countries where records were found.

What to ask the seller.
Four things to check on the inspection papers before you pay.
The latest inspection report
It shows the date, the result and the mileage. Check that the VIN on it matches the car.
When the next one is due
If it expires soon after you buy, the inspection and any repairs it asks for are yours to pay.
Defects noted last time
Minor defects on the report tell you what to look at during the test drive.
Mileage against the report
Compare the inspection mileage with the readings in your Certcar report. They should only go up.
